Tree surgeon cost in King’s Lynn: what the work usually costs
A fair range for each job, and the things that push a quote up or down. Your actual figure comes from the firm.
Independent enquiry service, not a tree surgery firm. Your enquiry goes to an established local tree surgery firm, who quotes and does the work direct.
These are guide figures for King’s Lynn and West Norfolk, put together from what local firms commonly charge. They are not quotes and they are not offers. Your price comes from the firm, in writing, after they have seen the tree.
Prices checked: October 2026.
| Job | Guide price | What it usually covers | What pushes it up |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hedge cutting | from £60 a visit | One small to medium garden hedge, one visit. Ask whether clippings are taken away. | Height and length, leylandii, a hedge left for years, needing a platform. |
| Stump grinding | from £80 a stump | One stump ground below ground level. Chippings are often left on site. | Diameter, spreading roots, access for the machine, extra stumps in the same visit. |
| Small tree pruning | from £150 | Deadwood, a lift, a tidy of a small tree such as an apple or a young cherry. | Height, how much comes off, whether the waste is chipped and taken. |
| Crown reduction, medium to large tree | £300 to £900 and up | A whole-crown reduction of a mature tree such as a lime, oak or sycamore. | Height, spread, what is underneath, a TPO or conservation area adding paperwork. |
| Dismantling or felling | £400 to £1,500 and more | Taking the whole tree down, in sections if there is no room to drop it. | Size, access, buildings and cables nearby, sectional dismantling, stump and waste. |
| Storm damage | Priced on the day | Clearing fallen limbs, making a tree safe. Can be a short visit or a crane job. | How urgent, how bad, what it is lying on, how many other call-outs the firm has. |
More rings, bigger bill. The dashed ring means it depends on the day.
What moves the price
- Access
- The biggest swing. A tree beside a drive with room for a truck is cheaper than the same tree behind a terrace with a side passage and a shared gate. Everything that cannot be chipped on the spot has to be carried.
- Height and spread
- More tree means more time, and past a certain size the firm needs more people or a platform.
- What is underneath
- A greenhouse, a conservatory roof, overhead cables, a neighbour’s garden. Anything that means lowering pieces on ropes instead of dropping them.
- The waste
- Chipped and left, chipped and taken, logs stacked for you or hauled away. Ask which, because it can be the difference between two quotes that look far apart. The trade word for the cut wood is arisings.
- Paperwork
- A TPO or conservation area adds a step before the work can start. Who handles that, and whether it costs extra, should be in the quote.
- Timing
- Urgent jobs and the weeks after a gale cost more. Planned winter work, when firms are quieter, can be easier to book.
- VAT
- Some firms charge it and some are below the threshold. Ask whether the figure you were given includes it.
A worked example, not a quote
Take a 12 metre ash behind a Gaywood terrace, side passage only, a shed underneath and a neighbour’s fence on one side. It needs a full sectional dismantle, so a climber and a groundworker, everything carried out to the truck. Quotes in the £600 to £1,000 range would not be a surprise. Move the same tree to a big plot in South Wootton with a clear drive and the figure could be much lower. Same tree, different bill, which is why nobody can price it from a postcode.
Comparing quotes
Two quotes only mean something if they cover the same work. Check each says what is being cut and where, who clears the waste, whether stump grinding is included, whether VAT is in the figure, and that the firm has public liability insurance you can see. The cheapest quote is often the one that leaves out the clear-up.
Be wary of anyone who knocks on the door offering tree work they have “noticed” needs doing. Get a price in writing and take your time.
The guide to why quotes differ goes into this in more detail. Each job is explained on the services page, and two of them have pages of their own: stump grinding and hedge cutting. Access differs from patch to patch, so the pages for Gaywood, the Wootons, Dersingham and Downham Market say what to expect in each.
